The walls surrounding the existing kitchen were taken down, creating a free flowing space for cooking, dining and living, allowing the former duplex to be a loft-like space for entertaining. The client, who loves to cook, can showcase his talents in the kitchen while chatting with guests, yet allowing them to be comfortably seated. By using inexpensive, off-the-shelf components from Ikea in a clever composition, key high-end appliances, such as the laboratory styled foot pedal controls for the sink faucet, were still within the client's budget. The master bath, guest bath and powder room are designed with a similar objective; re-thinking the standard use of readily available products, all the while highlighting a dramatic feature or material.
