By stripping the house of all the exterior materials and replacing all the windows, we solved maintenance and energy concerns while creating a contemporary composition that integrates the existing house with the addition. The high ceilings of the open family room addition better connects the house to the landscaped yard and swimming pool, in addition to providing spatial variation from the smaller, more confined existing rooms.
